About The Position

This position is responsible for administering the planning, use, and expenditure of Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) and Federal-Aid (FA) funds for transportation purposes made available to all local governmental agencies in the district. This responsibility includes plan reviews, construction procedures, inspections, project documentation, assistance, and guidance to local agencies to provide the maximum utilization of available resources from all sources for local transportation improvement programs. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Local Roads & Streets Engineer. Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Six years of experience in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the activities of the Local Roads and Streets Section.
  • Approves for the department all Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) for local agency projects utilizing Motor Fuel Tax (MFT), state, or federal funds.
  • Develops and coordinates the Local Agency Federal Transportation Program.
  • Provides administrative guidance and engineering expertise to local agencies to maximize their program accomplishments and utilization of resources.
  • Coordinates the work of the Local Roads and Streets Section with other district bureaus, the central Bureau of Local Roads and Streets, local governmental agencies, and the various consulting engineering firms.
  • Ensures that staff perform duties in accordance with departmental rules, regulations, programs, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
