About The Position

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our International Programs team. In this role, you will be at the heart of multinational insurance operations — providing critical underwriting expertise, policy wording guidance, and regulatory oversight for U.S. local placements that service business produced outside North America. As a reverse-flow underwriter, you'll collaborate with underwriting teams across the globe to evaluate coverage structures, review policy forms and endorsements, assess underwriting exceptions, and deliver technical guidance that directly shapes the quality and consistency of multinational insurance solutions for our clients. This is a high-impact position that blends deep technical expertise with meaningful cross-border collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3–7 years of commercial underwriting experience
  • Successfully passed CPCU 551 (Managing Commercial Property Risk) and CPCU 552 (Managing Commercial Liability Risk)
  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, policy forms, and underwriting principles, with demonstrated ability to: Interpret ISO and Swiss Re proprietary policy forms, endorsements, exclusions, and coverage triggers, Evaluate coverage intent and identify potential gaps or unintended exposures, Assess how primary, excess, umbrella, and specialty coverages interact within a multinational insurance program, Evaluate the impact of limits, aggregates, exclusions, attachment points, and coverage triggers on overall program structure
  • Hands-on experience reviewing policy wording, endorsements, and complex coverage structures
  • Working knowledge across multiple lines: General Liability, Umbrella, Excess Liability, Automobile Liability, Employers Liability, Commercial Property, Directors & Officers Liability, and Construction Liability

  • Familiarity with alternative risk transfer solutions and global regulatory environments
  • Ability to respond confidently to broker and producing office inquiries regarding policy wording, coverage applicability, and endorsement usage

Responsibilities

  • Review and support U.S. local policies, endorsements, and coverage structures for multinational insurance programs
  • Evaluate pre-bind exception requests and provide well-reasoned technical underwriting recommendations
  • Ensure compliance of local placements with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and approved program structures
  • Provide technical underwriting guidance across a broad range of lines including: Commercial General Liability, Construction Liability, Automobile Liability, Employers Liability, Employee Benefits Liability, Umbrella and Excess Liability, Commercial Property, Directors & Officers Liability (D&O), Long-tail and runoff liabilities, where applicable
  • Review policy wording and endorsements to ensure alignment with coverage intent and underwriting strategy
  • Support multinational placements involving large corporate and middle-market accounts
  • Act as a technical resource for underwriting teams and producing offices outside North America
  • Support multinational insurance programs, captive structures, fronting arrangements, and alternative risk transfer solutions
  • Utilize Swiss Re systems and tools to monitor and oversee local servicing policies
  • Maintain awareness of market developments, regulatory requirements, and emerging risks
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across underwriting, operations, claims, legal, compliance, and finance functions
  • Participate in broker and client discussions requiring technical underwriting expertise
  • Provide training and guidance to underwriting colleagues and producing offices
  • Contribute to process improvements, system enhancements, and knowledge management initiatives

Benefits

  • The estimated base salary range for this position is $108,000 to $162,000.
