About The Position

Seeking a skilled and motivated Property & Casualty Underwriter to join a team. In this role, you will work within a specific delegated underwriting authority to independently qualify and price new and renewal business in alignment with program underwriting guidelines and pricing directives. You will also be responsible for servicing accounts in accordance with established service standards. This position may involve supervising Underwriting Assistants and requires a strong understanding of commercial insurance, analytical skills, and the ability to work independently.

Requirements

  • Progress toward AU, CPCU, ARM designation, or comparable higher insurance education is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Property & Casualty Underwriter, or 3 years of industry experience as an underwriting assistant, CSR, or agent/agency management.
  • Must possess or obtain a current property-casualty license for the state of residence within three (3) months, along with any additional required licenses.

Responsibilities

  • Independently qualify and price new and renewal business, exercising discretion and judgment to accept, reject, or modify submissions.
  • Request additional information to qualify submissions and communicate decisions to producers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with producers in assigned regions, serving as the primary point of contact.
  • Analyze and review underwriting information, including applications, MVRs, loss notifications, inspections, financial reports, and supplemental applications.
  • Participate in large account reviews and prepare underwriting approaches for significant renewals and new business.
  • Ensure adherence to delegated underwriting authority and service standards.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant policy documentation, meeting all file documentation standards and passing internal and external audits.
  • Provide guidance and instructions to Underwriting Assistants, including performance evaluations and staffing management, as applicable.
  • Monitor risk control and claims activities, and take appropriate action on transactions exceeding Underwriting Assistants' authority.
  • Support sales staff by attending agent meetings, conventions, trade shows, and agent visits as needed.
  • Evaluate and compare competitors' forms and coverages.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
