About The Position

Well known for our amazing visitor engagement, welcoming atmosphere and captivating exhibitions, Science World is the go-to place for everything Science. Our guests’ experience all begins with their first point of contact in our Lobby: our Lobby Experience Staff, part of our Visitor Experience team. Under the direction of the Managers, Visitor Experience, you will provide our visitors with friendly and responsive services, whether it is in person, over the phone or by email. You will use your technologically savvy skills to process payments related to visitation, memberships, courses and camps, be the go-to person for any guest inquiries and provide exceptional customer service. As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months. Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings. Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs and this may include special events on evenings, weekends and holidays. Who are we looking for? You are a customer service driven team player, who is excited to provide our visitors with friendly, fun, awesome, ‘wow’, memorable experiences. You are flexible and can understand the Visitor Experience Team’s importance in Science World’s daily operations, helping to ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment. You are comfortable working with colleagues in different departments to help meet our shared goals. You feel confident role modelling a positive, solution-focused approach in your daily tasks, and can work as an engaged and collaborative team player.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in meeting and exceeding customer needs and expectations
  • Ability to work well under pressure and enjoy dealing directly with the public
  • Experience using cash registers, ticket terminals, computerized sales systems, databases and Microsoft Office
  • Must have speed and accuracy in handling cash for high volume sales
  • Strong organizational skills; must be able to perform a variety of tasks in a busy environment requiring high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Passionate about Science and life-long learning
  • While shifts are given based on business levels, you must be available to work a minimum of 64 hours per month, with at least one of the work days on weekends. A flexible work schedule is preferred; must be available to work school breaks, weekends and holidays. Hours are not guaranteed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous sales, retail, tourism, office administration and experience in a charitable/not-for-profit organization is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Assist visitors with their arrival and visitation needs in a courteous, cheerful and efficient manner. This includes general inquiries, problem solving, information services, lost and found, as well as explaining our offerings and providing recommendations
  • Ensure a safe, clean, secure environment for our customers
  • Ability to resolve concerns in a timely and professional manner when dealing with difficult situations. Must demonstrate strong conflict resolution and troubleshooting skills
  • Perform proficient operation of our ticketing and registration system (Advance Ticket Management System) with the processing and receipt of entrance fees for all admissions, memberships and events, etc. in person, over the phone and by email
  • Accurate and efficient processing of all cash transactions and end of day reconciliation
  • Process registration for various Science World programs
  • Assist in the planning and execution of all special membership events and promotions
  • Perform administrative duties such as answering phones and responding to emails, and completing inventory checks
  • Assist in the smooth operation of all ancillary services
  • Operate within the philosophy, culture and values of Science World
  • Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role
