About The Position

Responsible for the safe transportation and timely delivery of pigs. This role involves connecting and operating a truck and trailer to transport livestock to and from specified locations, ensuring the welfare and quality of the animals during loading and unloading. The driver is also responsible for vehicle maintenance, adherence to safety protocols, and accurate record-keeping.

Requirements

  • CDL required.
  • DOT Medical card is required.
  • A qualifying insurable driver’s license must be maintained to drive on behalf of the company.
  • Must be able to move and work with live animals of various sizes.
  • Regular, punctual and consistent attendance is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years' experience preferred.
  • Experience working with livestock preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely connect truck/trailer and deliver pigs to and from specified locations.
  • Load pigs onto trailer and unload pigs at scheduled location with care and concern for the welfare and quality of the animal.
  • Properly use PPE in compliance with job and site protocols.
  • Manage maintenance, service, and inspection of truck and trailer.
  • Prioritize workload in an efficient manner.
  • Perform detailed pre/post trip inspections and report deficiencies to maintenance and transportation manager.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and bio-secure location to store supplies inside their vehicle such as shoe covers, coveralls, and other items.
  • Document and maintain accurate mileage sheets, pre-trip inspection reports, logbooks when applicable, and other paperwork as needed.
  • Record head count and weight using company software for record keeping.
  • Routinely check and maintain trailer brakes, battery, and breakaway device.
  • Adjust trailers to environmental conditions, which may include paneling of trailers or adding chains to tires.
  • Fuel and prepare truck and trailer before heading out to load.
  • Maintain TQA+ certification and DOT requirements.
  • Complete safety training timely.
  • Follow all Animal Welfare policies and practices and inform management of any violations by staff.
  • Follow bio-security measures according to Bio-Security Policy, including visitor access, sanitation, and disease prevention measures.
  • Follow all safety rules and practices and ensure others do the same.
  • Support, promote, and adhere to policies, procedures, and values of Passel Farms and industry standards.
  • Maintain regular, punctual, and consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill responsibilities and support team goals.
