About The Position

As a Legal Consultant, you will perform your duties within the Senior Litigation Department, a team recognized as the 2025 Canadian Bar Association – Litigation Lawyers (CBA) and Mondaq Legal Team of the Year. You will represent Beneva's affiliated companies before various judicial, administrative, and arbitration bodies. Your primary responsibility will be for litigation files in damage insurance as well as personal insurance (particularly life and disability insurance). Working closely with operational sectors, you may also be involved in files concerning various investigations, recovery, access requests, and diverse civil and commercial litigation. You will fulfill the following functions: Represent Beneva's affiliated companies before the courts. Be responsible for managing litigation files under your charge in different judicial districts, including drafting notices and judicial proceedings, examinations, management conferences, settlement conferences, and trials. Advise Beneva's affiliated companies and their representatives on any legal matters, provide recommendations, and issue various legal opinions. Participate in committees relevant to the exercise of your function. Keep up-to-date and share, where applicable, through training, your knowledge of any legislation, proposed legislation, regulations, judicial decisions, quasi-judicial decisions, standards applicable to the financial sector, and doctrine directly or indirectly related to insurance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws.
  • Member of the Bar of Quebec.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in litigation, particularly in damage insurance and/or personal insurance.
  • Experience in all aspects of litigation as a litigator and possess the ability to express yourself and defend the interests of your clients before the courts.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written French, as well as functional command of English, both spoken and written, due to the nature of the tasks or interactions with English-speaking colleagues, partners, clients, or suppliers, or to meet the company's growth objectives.

  • Experience in civil and commercial liability (an asset).
