About The Position

The Litigation Legal Assistant supports an active California plaintiff-side litigation practice focused primarily on elder abuse and medical malpractice, as well as nursing home negligence, wrongful death, and complex personal injury matters. This hands-on litigation role involves discovery, subpoenas, medical records, court filings, depositions, calendaring, and case preparation rather than general administration. The assistant manages routine litigation assignments independently under attorney supervision, helping keep cases organized and deadlines moving. The work includes preparing and organizing litigation documents and evidence, coordinating with clients and other case participants, and supporting matters through mediation and trial.

  • Working knowledge of California litigation procedures, including court calendaring, electronic filing, subpoenas, depositions, and service of process.
  • Ability to distinguish expert witness testimony and opinions from lay witness testimony and support related litigation preparation.
  • Strong written and verbal English skills for legal documents, professional correspondence, and deadline-sensitive work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal case management or document management systems.
  • Ability to provide a personally drafted, redacted legal writing sample, preferably a discovery response, pleading, or other litigation-related document; confidential and identifying client information must be removed.

Nice To Haves

  • Plaintiff-side experience involving elder abuse, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, wrongful death, or complex personal injury litigation.
