About The Position

National Beef of Kansas City, Missouri, is seeking to hire a qualified professional to fill a position as Litigation and Claims Manager. This critical role will be responsible for managing employment and liability claims litigation and workers’ compensation by working with inside and outside counsel to resolve complex cases efficiently, control costs, and minimize risk while ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a legal degree and have a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in at least one of the related areas.

Requirements

  • Strong legal knowledge in civil litigation and insurance principles
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Juris-Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in workers’ compensation litigation, employment litigation, liability claims or a closely related field
  • Qualified candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete the background check.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the lifecycle of litigated claims, including complex, high-exposure, or serious injury cases.
  • Develop and implement litigation strategies, manage budgets, and hold law firms accountable.
  • Act as a key contact for employees while working with claim team, attorneys, management and vendors, ensuring clear communication on case status and developments.
  • Provide oversight and manage expectations for the claims adjusters, provide training, and manage relationships with outside law firms. Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and implement strategies for litigation and claims management.
  • Investigate claims, evaluate damages, determine liability, and evaluate accuracy of reserves.
  • Working with the Director of Workers’ Compensation and Compliance and Chief Legal Office to develop negotiation and settlement discussions, representing the company at mediations and trials.
  • Identify opportunities to improve claims handling processes and ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Build a records retention system which will ensure claims documentation of all cases, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
