About The Position

The Literacy Interventionist is a school-level instructional opportunity at Cambridge Street Upper School (CSUS), responsible for working with grade-level teams, individual teachers, and literacy interventionists to support classroom instruction and targeted literacy support. CSUS is a middle school serving grades 6-8, founded in 2012, and endeavors to develop a vibrant teaching and learning community that values social justice, affirms cultural identity, and promotes academic excellence for all. The school actively aspires to become a culturally proficient institution that reflects equity and inclusion, affirming the rich cultural and racial diversity of its student body and families, and is committed to challenging the opportunity gap.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of successful teaching in ELA and Literacy in grades JK - 5.
  • Proven coaching/leadership capacity and ability to work cooperatively with staff and parents.
  • Experience in analyzing and using a wide variety of data sources.
  • Culturally proficient and skilled in culturally responsive teaching.
  • Familiarity with the English Language Arts and Literacy Framework.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Massachusetts License: ELA Elementary Grades required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Assessment System helpful.
  • Experience working in multicultural, urban settings is preferred.
  • Master’s degree with a major in reading preferred.
  • Reading Specialist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practice.
  • Incorporate a variety of assessment strategies in order to inform and modify instruction, as well as target intervention and enrichment needs.
  • Skillfully support and facilitate student learning of grade-level content and standards.
  • Empower a diverse group of learners via compassionate literacy instruction, guided by data.
  • Attend team meetings with colleagues as assigned.
  • Partner with families to include them in each student’s learning and development, guided by a profound understanding of the importance of this connection.
  • Commit to growing as a culturally responsive educator and to engaging in school professional learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
