About The Position

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) implements communication therapy programs and activities for students, individually or in small groups, to assist them in meeting Individual Education Program objectives as directed by the speech/language pathologist. This role provides therapy support in classrooms, communicates student information to appropriate staff, and travels between schools for therapy sessions. The SLPA assists with program preparation, material assembly, and updates schedules. They maintain speech/language therapy files, complete paperwork, and collect progress monitoring data under the supervision of the speech/language pathologist. Additionally, the SLPA contacts teachers and other staff for consultation, records student progress and attendance, updates therapy plans, and attends departmental, building, and IEP meetings. They serve as a team member in general and special education classrooms, construct and modify materials for students, and ensure students' personal hygiene needs are attended to by assigned staff. Occasional lifting and carrying of students may be required. The position also involves performing a variety of non-essential functions consistent with its scope and intent.

  • Associate's degree with an emphasis in Speech-Language Pathology Assistance, or a BS or BA in speech/language pathology with experience as a speech-language pathology assistant required.
  • Valid/Active Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Licensure from the Washington State Department of Health
  • Successful completion of fingerprinting and background check

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with communication and language disabilities preferred.
  • Work experience with preschool, elementary, and/or secondary students with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implements communication therapy programs and activities for students, singly or in small groups, to assist in meeting Individual Education Program objectives as directed by the speech/language pathologist.
  • Provides therapy support in classrooms as appropriate.
  • Communicates and relays information regarding students to the appropriate staff.
  • Travels between schools for therapy sessions, schedules direct therapy, plans travel times, and checks in with building staff.
  • Assists with preparation for and implementation of programs for students, including assembling materials and preparing/updating schedules.
  • Prepares speech/language therapy files, files district forms, completes paperwork, and takes progress monitoring data under the direction of the speech/language pathologist.
  • Contacts teachers, assistants, principals, and others for consultation under the direction of the speech language pathologist.
  • Records progress and attendance of students and updates therapy plans.
  • Attends departmental, building, and IEP meetings.
  • Serves as a team member in designated general education and special education classrooms.
  • Constructs and produces materials for students, and modifies materials as necessary and as directed by the speech/language pathologist.
  • Ensures personal hygiene needs of students are attended to by assigned staff.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry students.
  • Perform a variety of non-essential functions consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
