About The Position

The Learn and Earn Summer School Literacy Intervention Teacher (LIT) role at Emergence Academy is designed to provide targeted reading skills instruction to students, contributing to their overall reading and literacy development. LITs will report to the Principal and collaborate with a Lead Literacy Coach. The primary focus is on delivering specialized literacy intervention and providing ample practice opportunities. This role involves creating a supportive classroom environment conducive to learning, implementing program materials effectively from day one, and assessing student progress. LITs are also responsible for maintaining accurate records, interacting with other summer school staff, and ensuring student safety. Adherence to the SPS code of conduct and classroom behavior policies is expected.

Requirements

  • Must be available to work all days and hours of summer school without exception: Monday-Thursday, July 6-July 30, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
  • Must attend the professional development week (June 26 - July 2nd from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM) and all sessions of the companion 3-credit course.
  • Must provide a statement on understanding what it means to be a culturally responsive educator who maximizes learning during in and out of school time with culturally and linguistically diverse students and families (maximum word count of 250).

  • Approved applicants must complete all onboarding tasks with the Springfield Public Schools Human Resources Department on time and as indicated to be hired.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned literacy intervention classes/groups in specified locations and at times designated.
  • Provide targeted literacy intervention instruction to students and offer deliberate practice opportunities.
  • Create a classroom intervention environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Implement program materials and approaches for effective literacy intervention instruction and assessment.
  • Assess the accomplishments of summer school students on a regular basis.
  • Provide progress reports, as may be required, and communicate with parents, as deemed necessary.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations, including weekly student attendance and weekly progress in the intervention lessons.
  • Interact with and support other summer school classes led by school-based educators as deemed necessary.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follow the SPS code of conduct for the classroom which is consistent with established administrative policies and develops rules of classroom behavior which are enforced in a fair and just manner.
