The Literacy Coach facilitates change in instructional practices of teachers to enable them to diagnose student needs more analytically, plan more productively, and teach more effectively. This role involves providing leadership for teachers by planning, collaborating, organizing, mentoring, and facilitating change to improve the instructional program. The coach partners with classroom teachers to assess students, plan instruction, and implement best practices to create model classrooms for observation. They analyze data with teachers and administrators to meet student needs and improve instruction, and provide resources to support all grade levels. The coach also facilitates the use of research-based teaching strategies, provides staff development aligned with the school's strategic improvement plan, and maintains effective communication with administrators, teachers, parents, and stakeholders. Commitment to professional growth and staying current with research-based practices is essential. The coach works with principals and teachers on grade-level meetings and after-school staff development, collaborates with media specialists on informational literacy, and critically analyzes their own practices. They also create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration and coordinate parent workshops.
