As part of our team in Marlborough, we are seeking a highly motivated intern with a multidisciplinary background in biomedical and bioengineering. As a Research Intern (Lipid Nanoparticle & mRNA Synthesis), you will contribute to the full product development cycle-from concept to prototype-and collaborate closely with engineers and scientists in a multidisciplinary environment. Onsite role based at our Marlborough, MA site

Requirements

  • Current graduate student in biomedical, chemical, mechanical engineering, or related field with formal education and experience with lipid nanoparticles and/or nucleic acids.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with RNA synthesis, preferably including in vitro transcription.
  • Experience with LNP formulation and characterization, including techniques such as dynamic light scattering (DLS), nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), RiboGreen assay, HPLC, chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, ELISA, or related assays.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to summarize results and present findings clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideal to have an experience with one or more of the following: dynamic light scattering (DLS), nanoparticle tracking analysis, RiboGreen assay, HPLC, chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, ELISA
  • Familiarity with microfluidic instruments, laboratory automation, 3D printing, advanced cell models, or conjugation reactions is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct systematic experiments of in vitro transcription (IVT) reaction on benchtop bioreactors; collect and analyze the data.
  • Develop and execute protocols for preparing and characterizing nucleic acid–loaded lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations using automated LNP synthesis platforms.
  • Support LNP process development activities, including screening, scale-up, and manufacturing-relevant workflow optimization.
  • Troubleshoot issues with experimental design and execution.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data; prepare technical summaries and present results in internal meetings and reviews.
