About The Position

In this role within Technology and Global Security, you’ll help shape the future of ATCO’s Linux/Unix server environment—balancing long-term strategy with hands-on operational support. You’ll contribute to a clear technical roadmap, lead and deliver initiatives that move our platform forward, and provide proactive, responsive support aligned with ATCO’s security standards and policies.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
  • 1–3 years of experience/exposure supporting Linux (preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux), including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting in line with best practices.
  • Scripting/programming capability (e.g., shell scripting, Perl, Python) to automate and improve operational tasks.
  • Working knowledge of supporting the broader server ecosystem—hardware in a controlled data centre environment, virtualization (e.g., VMware), and network administration/troubleshooting.
  • Experience working in an ITIL environment, including incident/problem management and maintaining operational data (e.g., CMDB) to support planning and service awareness.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with sound judgement, problem-solving, and the ability to mentor/teach others.
  • Ability to participate in rotational on-call support.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evolve ATCO’s Linux/Unix server platform by monitoring industry best practices, understanding current-state capabilities, and translating business needs into actionable improvements.
  • Contribute to multi-year technology roadmaps and annual plans (including priorities and budget), and help deliver projects that advance the environment.
  • Partner with internal teams, service providers, and suppliers to ensure effective communication, service alignment, and smooth introduction of technology and support changes.
  • Provide day-to-day delivery and support for Linux/Unix servers across on-prem and cloud platforms, including participation in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation.
  • Support service management practices: incident and problem management (including root cause analysis), escalation follow-through, ITIL-aligned processes, and an up-to-date service catalog/CMDB inputs as required.
  • Execute core operational activities such as patching, backup and recovery, builds, and decommissioning.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery readiness by reviewing and improving DR plans (RTO/RPO alignment), coordinating with DR teams, and participating in DR exercises.
