The Class A Lineman Transmission is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position works at various locations and may be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. The role involves working safely on energized and de-energized transmission systems, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and troubleshooting transmission system problems. It requires frequent work with energized high voltage systems, maintenance of company vehicles and equipment, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, performing rigorous physical labor. The position also requires understanding and reading blueprints, proper sagging of wire, and proficiency in various aspects of transmission line work, including hot stick work, bare hand work, pole/tower climbing, heavy lifting, rigging, and understanding induced voltage and grounding procedures. The Lineman must be capable of working at heights and in confined spaces, properly installing and removing PPE, climbing different structure types, understanding phasing procedures, identifying puller and tensioner setups, planning safe work, obtaining a one shot on a recloser, understanding minimum approach distance, and performing basic bucket rescues. Effective pre-job/tailgate briefings and safe execution of reconductoring and mechanical jumper installation/removal are also key responsibilities. The role also includes proper inspection of rubber goods, cover, and PPE.
