The Class A Lineman is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. Essential functions include safely performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work, leading crew members in the absence of the Foreman, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and installing transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switchgear. The role also involves troubleshooting primary and secondary systems, replacing cutout fuses and clearing faulted circuits and systems, and frequently working with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care. Maintaining company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order is essential. The position requires rigorous physical labor, the ability to identify primary and secondary voltage, familiarity with induced voltage, understanding grounding procedures, and capability of working at heights and/or confined spaces. Employees must be able to properly install and remove PPE and cover up, climb different types of structures, understand how to phase out a line using phasing sticks, plan safe work based on a job print or work order, obtain a one shot on a recloser, effectively conduct a pre-job or tailgate briefing, safely perform a reconductoring job, glove/work live high voltage distribution power lines, safely install and remove mechanical jumpers, and use a load bust tool. All other related work as required to complete the job is expected, and the role requires working outside, frequently in inclement weather.
