About The Position

Xcel Energy Distribution Department is looking to fill multiple Apprentice (1st Year - 4th Year) or Journey Line Worker position(s) for our Hobbs, NM location! As an Apprentice or Journey Line Worker, you will be taught or experience a very rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution lines. Xcel Energy has a very reputable Department of Labor certified apprentice program that is recognized throughout the United States. Position will be responsible for construction, maintenance and operations. Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution lines.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date.
  • Successfully taken the EEI CAST Assessment (for Apprentice).
  • Successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment (for Journeyman).
  • Completion of an approved apprentice line program or 5 years of progressive electric lineman experience (for Journeyman).
  • Must be totally committed to safety, quality work and customer service.
  • Must be able and willing to respond to after hour and weekend call outs.
  • Must be mentally competent, able to communicate and able to comprehend instructions and build on previous experience.
  • Must exhibit a teamwork attitude and be able to work with others.
  • Must be of adequate physical stature to Lift and maneuver up to 90 lbs.
  • Climb wood poles up to 100' tall.
  • Perform aerial work in a safety belt in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Use shovels, sledgehammers and 90 lb. jack hammers.
  • Work in confined areas.
  • Pass the federal DOT physical examination.
  • Complete all questions in application and upload a resume for consideration.
  • Reside within 20 miles of the Hobbs, NM Service Center.
  • Be physically fit and able to lift objects up to 90 pounds, pass a physical examination and be able to perform strenuous physical labor under all types of conditions.
  • Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers and groundwork with utility line crew required.
  • A high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times.
  • Pass the Xcel Energy security and drug screening.

  • Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods.

Responsibilities

  • Performing aerial work in a safety belt in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Using shovels, sledgehammers and 90 lb. jack hammers.
