About The Position

Xcel Energy Distribution Department is looking to fill multiple Apprentice (1st Year - 4th Year) or Journey Line Worker position(s) for our Hobbs, NM location! As an Apprentice or Journey Line Worker, you will be taught or experience a very rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution lines. Xcel Energy has a very reputable Department of Labor certified apprentice program that is recognized throughout the United States.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date.
  • Must have successfully taken the EEI CAST Assessment
  • Must be totally committed to safety, quality work and customer service
  • Must be able and willing to respond to after hour and weekend call outs
  • Apprentices are required to attend 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentice schools
  • Must be mentally competent, able to communicate and able to comprehend instructions and build on previous experience
  • Must exhibit a teamwork attitude and be able to work with others
  • Must pass the federal DOT physical examination
  • Must complete all questions in application and upload a resume for consideration.
  • Must reside within 20 miles of the Hobbs, NM Service Center
  • Must successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment.
  • Completion of an approved apprentice line program is required or 5 years of progressive electric lineman experience.
  • Must have a Class A CDL
  • Must be capable of performing all aspects of electric distribution overhead, underground, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Must be available for emergency callouts as per a schedule.
  • Must have effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • A high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times
  • Must reside within 20 miles of the Hobbs, NM service center.
  • Must pass the Xcel Energy security and drug screening

Nice To Haves

  • Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods
  • Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers and groundwork with utility line crew required

  • Construction, maintenance and operations of distribution lines.
  • Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution lines.
  • Constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution lines.
