About The Position

Under general supervision, works alone or with a crew to install and maintain electric distribution and transmission systems. This includes all overhead, underground facilities and other utilities, which involves installing, but not connecting gas pipe. The role also performs the duties of Electric Service Technician, Utility Operator, and Meter Utility Person.

Requirements

  • Pipeline/Hwy Alcohol & Drug Testing
  • CIP certification
  • High school or equivalency

Responsibilities

  • Performs all work in a safe manner, complying with all applicable safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Protects themselves, fellow employees, and the public from injury while performing qualified and trained tasks.
  • Installs, changes, transfers, moves, and removes poles, pole line hardware, guys, transformers, lightning arresters, streetlight equipment, electrical cable, gas pipe, cross-arms, energized conductors, insulators, conduit, capacitor bank controls, and all other electrical materials and accessories used in the construction, maintenance, and operation of electric circuits.
  • Installs, uses, and removes protective equipment and devices on energized electric circuits of all voltages, including working with hot line tools.
  • Performs steel tower structural work, including erection, removal, and repair of steel towers and associated electrical equipment.
  • Works with electrical instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, and fault locators, and reads meters.
  • Operates switches and cutouts in transmission and distribution circuits.
  • Patrols transmission and distribution circuits as assigned, inspecting poles, towers, conductors, and equipment.
  • Drives trucks and is responsible for the truck, tools, and equipment carried on it.
  • Operates all types of equipment associated with the work being performed.
  • Locates underground gas and electric facilities and performs locates where no dedicated personnel exist.
  • Contacts property owners regarding tree trimming, performs minor tree trimming, cuts brush, and removes line detriments as necessary.
  • Completes written reports on fieldwork and accounts for materials and time associated with each job.
  • Performs public contacts when necessary.
  • Leads, trains, and instructs employees in their work, including switching.
  • Installs, removes, changes, and turns on or off existing meters, including voltage recording devices, single and three-phase self-contained meters through Class 320, and network meters through Class 320.
  • Changes bill groups on demand meters as needed (excluding meter types or situations requiring programming for installation).
  • Performs duties in company and customer substations to restore service and perform diagnostics, including switching, analyzing and communicating relay targets, amp readings, voltage readings, breaker/recloser counts or values, voltage regulator information, and load tap changer information.
  • Operates substation equipment, including opening/closing breakers and reclosers, operating load tap changers and voltage regulator controls, and installing fuses to restore service.
