About The Position

Under general supervision of the Line Maintenance Superintendent, this position is responsible for performing labor required to carry out the Line Maintenance and Operation functions of the water distribution system and sewage collection and conveyance systems as required. The role also participates in water, sewer, and customer service operations as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be reachable by telephone and available for emergency call out.
  • Must have transportation to and from work.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
  • Must have the ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions.
  • Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Requires a valid Arkansas driver's license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.
  • Must be able to obtain an Arkansas Grade I Water Distribution Operator License within one (1) year.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload trucks and carry heavy materials.
  • Operate and maintain POA vehicles, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain and operate, under direction, the pipelines, valves, hydrants, meters, and equipment associated with the water distribution system and wastewater collection and conveyance system.
  • Act as a flagman when crews are working on the roadway.
  • Report problems to the Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with the general public and coworkers in a polite and efficient manner.
  • Assist coworkers and other departments in system operations and maintenance tasks and duties.
  • Locate streets, addresses, and water and sewer lines on maps.
  • Respond to customer requests and complaints and complete work orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Follow up on actions, engage in ongoing personal development, and complete department-related training, licensing, and certification.
  • Operate in accordance with Local, State, Federal Regulations, and Public Utilities Policies and Procedures.
  • May be required to work periodically for other divisions as directed.
  • Follow all Property Owners' Association (POA) policies and safety rules.
  • Drive a POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  • Be on time to work, available for standby duty, and work after hours and weekends whenever necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
