About The Position

Dixie Technical College is hiring a part-time Line Cook for its on-campus Café in St. George, Utah. The role combines preparing fresh meals according to standardized recipes and instructions with cashiering, customer service, and general kitchen support. The Line Cook works closely with chefs and Café staff, serves students, employees, and members of the public, and reports to the Café Manager. The position requires attention to detail, a sense of urgency, and the ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic kitchen. The schedule is Monday through Thursday, 2:00 PM to 7:30 PM, at $18 per hour. No benefits are provided beyond hourly pay. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and drug testing.

Requirements

• Basic familiarity with electronic cashier equipment, such as cash registers, scanners, and money counters.
• Attention to detail and mathematical skills.
• Sales skills.
• Strong communication and time management skills.
• Customer satisfaction-oriented approach.
• Ability to regularly talk and hear.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch.
• Ability to frequently lift or move items over 50 pounds.
• Close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with preparing meals for the Café according to standardized recipes and instructions.
• Assist Café staff with cleanup, dishes, and next-day preparations.
• Maintain clean and tidy work areas and stock items.
• Bag, box, or wrap packages.
• Handle cash and credit transactions, scan goods, and collect payments.
• Redeem stamps and coupons.
• Issue receipts, refunds, change, or tickets and maintain transaction reports.
• Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful customer service.
• Resolve customer complaints and provide relevant information.
• Make sales referrals, cross-sell products, and introduce new products.
• Treat students and staff respectfully and equally without regard to the protected characteristics listed in the posting.
• Report violations immediately to HR or Student Services.
• Adhere to Dixie Tech policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
