About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama is seeking applicants for a full-time, fixed-term Lighting Technician. The position will begin in late August 2024, and end 31 May 2025. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in a creative and fast-paced work environment. This person will contribute to the department by providing essential support for physical production and events as well as helping to maintain lighting equipment and infrastructure.

Requirements

Two years’ experience as a lighting technician in the entertainment industry
Experience as head lighting technician on at least three theatrical productions
Knowledge of and experience in maintaining entertainment lighting equipment, including automated lighting fixtures
Experience with electrical wiring and soldering techniques
Experience programming theatrical lighting control consoles (ETC Eos Family preferred)
Successful Background Check

A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

Engineering theatrical lighting plots to prepare for installation in a theater
Supervising the installation of theatrical lighting plots in a theater
Mentoring students in the process of installing theatrical lighting plots in a theater
Engineering and construction of practical electrical devices for use in theatrical production
Maintaining entertainment lighting equipment and facilities
Other duties as assigned
