About The Position

The Part-Time Lighting Director (L1) is responsible for overseeing the setup, operation, and strike of lighting and electrical systems for assigned live events. This role supports a wide range of productions, including concerts, theatrical performances, and arena events. Responsibilities may vary based on event requirements, touring production needs, and available equipment and personnel. The Lighting Director serves as the on-site subject matter expert for lighting and electrics, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of all lighting elements.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience as a Lighting Director, Lead Lighting Technician (L1), or similar role in live events or theater production.
  • Strong working knowledge of lighting consoles (ETC Ion preferred), lighting fixtures, dimming systems, and power distribution.
  • Familiarity with rigging practices and event production workflows.
  • Ability to adapt to varying event requirements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and team coordination abilities.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of venue-specific systems (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead lighting technician (L1) for assigned events in a live production environment.
  • Act as the primary on-site contact for all lighting and electrical systems, including house and touring equipment.
  • Oversee installation, programming, operation, and strike of lighting and electrics systems.
  • Program and operate lighting consoles (e.g., ETC Ion) and related control systems.
  • Interpret and execute lighting designs in collaboration with Lighting Designers and touring productions.
  • Supervise and direct lighting crews during load-in, rehearsals, performances, and load-out.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to lighting and electrical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, including power distribution and rigging practices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Technical Directors, Stage Managers, Audio/Video staff) and external partners (touring crews, vendors).
  • Provide occasional support for video or other technical production elements, as needed.
  • Assist with general stagehand duties when required to support overall event operations.
  • Participate in department meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
