About The Position

The Lighting Assistant - On Call supports QVC & HSN. Under the direction of the Manager of Broadcast Lighting, On Call Lighting Assistants support the efforts of the entire Lighting team to enhance the lighting of every studio and remote broadcast for QVC and HSN. This person will perform daily technical and design maintenance under the supervision and guidance of the Lighting Designer & Lighting Engineer. They must also react quickly to critical situations that occur in live broadcast situations, and support any other lighting activities that involve live studio and remote locations.

Requirements

  • Must be located within apprx. 40 miles of West Chester, PA.
  • Need to have flexibility with schedule/hours, and there is no guarantee with number of hours/week, as this is dictated by the needs of the business.
  • Bachelor's degree in TV Broadcasting, Theatrical Lighting, and/or Film required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of Lighting; Design, Technical or Engineering experience in television, theatrical or entertainment lighting required.
  • Experience trouble-shooting lighting equipment and systems required.
  • Demonstrated ability to react quickly to critical situations occurring with the Live Show broadcast required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with entertainment lighting diming systems, Ethernet and DMX control systems/protocol, intelligent lighting and systems design and installation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled checks of set lighting to ensure that all fixtures and gel are in good working condition and focused correctly.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on lighting systems and equipment.
  • Support the execution of Remote Broadcast lighting. This includes possible work on-site, as well as equipment prep and truck loading & unloading.
  • Program the lighting consoles as necessary.
  • Understand basic operations and functions of the lighting console.
  • Under the supervision of the Lighting Designer and Associate Lighting Designer, hang and focus any additional lighting equipment needed for new positions, specialty shows, or TSVs.
  • Utilize existing software to track times associated with specialty shows and additional programming or projects.
  • Utilize existing software to track the movement or installation of all lighting equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, and promote all safe-use practices through the use of safety guidelines.
