About The Position

Alter Trading Corporation is seeking an energetic, dependable Light Equipment Operator for its operation in Norfolk, Nebraska. The company processes ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal and operates more than 70 facilities across eight states in the Midwest and Southern regions. The operator assists with the recycling process by using a variety of equipment and handling, sorting, and inspecting materials. The role requires following company safety standards and wearing required personal protective equipment while working or in the yard.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior experience operating equipment, including forklifts, wheel loaders, bobcats, stationary balers, or shears.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 30–50 pounds and 100+ pounds with a two-person lift.
• Ability to interact effectively with customers and vendors.
• Willingness to learn, adaptability, and self-motivation.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of equipment used in the recycling process, including forklifts, grapple cranes, stationary shears, and stationary balers.
• Inspect equipment to ensure it is safe and in working condition.
• Load, unload, and sort materials.
• Inspect materials to ensure they meet quality standards.
• Know quality standards, material grades, and which materials may or may not be loaded.
• Use yard operating equipment as needed, including shag trucks, forklifts, skid steers, wheel loaders, stationary balers, stationary shears, and alligator shears.
• Perform basic maintenance on machinery.
• Wear necessary personal protective equipment and follow company safety standards at all times.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
