About The Position

This position operates light construction equipment in the maintenance of parks grounds and facilities. The essential job functions involve safely and efficiently operating a backhoe for grave opening and closing, and using large mowing equipment for cemetery ground maintenance across three cemeteries. Responsibilities also include assisting with cleaning cemetery buildings, litter and debris removal, and landscaping tasks such as raking leaves, pruning shrubs and trees, and adjusting foot markers to maintain a neat appearance. The role requires performing routine cleaning and maintenance on equipment to minimize downtime and extend its lifespan. This position also involves responding promptly to weekend calls for grave opening and closing according to funeral schedules, and occasionally operating a tractor with a dump trailer or a pickup truck with a trailer. As needed, the employee may fill in for the Crew Supervisor to assist with processing work orders and leading the crew in miscellaneous duties supporting Cemetery Division operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Experience with outdoor work--operating backhoe, mower, weed eater, chain saw and misc. power and hand tools.
• Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
• Desire to learn cemetery procedures.

• CDL's preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operates a backhoe to open and close graves.
• Uses large mowing equipment to assist with maintenance of cemetery grounds at three cemeteries according to schedule.
• Assists with cleaning of cemetery buildings, removing litter and debris.
• Performs landscaping activities such as raking leaves, pruning shrubs and trees or adjusting foot markers to keep grounds looking neat and attractive.
• Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on equipment to minimize downtime and extend the life of the equipment.
• Promptly responds when called on weekends to assist in opening and closing graves according to funeral schedules.
• Occasionally operates tractor with dump trailer as well as pickup truck with trailer attached.
• As needed, will occasionally fill in for Crew Supervisor to assist with processing work orders and leading the crew in misc. duties in support of Cemetery Division operations.
