About The Position

Banks Construction Company is looking for a dependable Light Equipment Operator to join our Grading Division. This is a great opportunity for someone with equipment experience who wants steady work, overtime opportunities, and a long-term career in heavy civil construction. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced grading crews on projects throughout the Charleston area, including commercial sites, highways, interstates, ports, and other major infrastructure projects. Our Grading Division helps build the foundation for major construction projects. Grading crews prepare sites, move material, stabilize soil, support excavation work, and help create the base needed for roads, highways, commercial developments, and other heavy civil projects.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of equipment operating experience
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Experience operating equipment on construction or sitework projects
  • Comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions
  • Takes safety seriously and pays attention to their surroundings
  • Communicates well with crew members and supervisors
  • Shows up on time and is ready to work each day
  • Wants to continue learning and growing in the heavy civil construction industry

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of equipment and support daily grading operations on active jobsites.
  • Perform grading and sitework activities on heavy civil construction projects.
  • Operate equipment safely around crews, traffic, and active jobsites.
  • Prepare and stabilize soil and other materials.
  • Use hand tools and power tools when needed.
  • Help clean and prepare jobsites.
  • Dig trenches, set braces, clean debris, and support excavation work.
  • Maintain equipment and keep it in good working condition.
  • Communicate with your crew to meet safety, production, and quality goals.
  • Assist with other duties as directed by the site supervisor.
