About The Position

The Lift Station Supervisor is a responsible administrative position charged with supervising and directing subordinates in the operation, maintenance, repairs, and construction of the City’s Lift Station facilities. Supports and implements all City programs, policies, and procedures related to the Utility Department.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of experience in the maintenance of industrial pumping equipment or an equivalent amount of time of industrial maintenance experience
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s License
  • Must possess a Class B CDL license (required) or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment
  • Must possess a Class III Collections Tech Certification (required) or ability to obtain within 2 years of employment
  • Thorough knowledge of operations and maintenance of pumps, valves, and other process equipment related to the complete and functional operation of the lift station
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required maintenance and operation of a wide variety of specialized equipment including but not limited to control panels, starters, floats, alternators, breakers, pumps, and valves
  • Extensive knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in the maintenance, and repair activities of a lift station
  • Ability to create and implement an efficient maintenance program
  • Knowledge and use of all types of shop and hand tools
  • Ability to work safely and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to guide, direct, and motivate employees; ability to organize and supervise the activities of various crews performing repair and maintenance work
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees
  • Operating knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, holding facilities, electrical components, and backup generation in the event of an online power failure
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful conditions
  • Ability to follow directions and have mechanical aptitude

  • One (1) year of vocational or technical training may be substituted for one year of experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, instructs, and assists in assigning crews in maintenance activities, maintenance, installations, and repairs of the City’s Lift Stations
  • Trains, supervises, and recommends disciplinary action for employees performing the duties of maintenance, and repair of the City’s lift station facilities
  • Maintains a good professional working relationship with other departmental staff and the employees of other departments. As well as the public and the staff of professional firms providing services to the city
  • Repair work is performed from daily inspections, PubWorks work orders, malfunction reports from plant operations, SCADA alarms, work orders, immediate Supervisor or other supporting staff. and all Manufacturer's recommendations in the O&M Manuals
  • Oversees the maintenance and repair work of the city’s lift station equipment.
  • Performs skilled repair and maintenance on mechanical components and equipment
  • Work includes but is not limited to maintenance of all lift station pumps, pump deragging and installation/replacement, bearings, seals, shafts, gears, motors, control panels, breakers, alternators, starters, floats, transducers, chemical process equipment, storage and feed systems, valves and all other generalized equipment necessary for complete and functional operation
  • Checks and maintains pumps, motors, compressors, piping, and connections at the facility
  • Coordinates maintenance and repairs with maintenance staff and operations.
  • Troubleshoots individual pieces of mechanical equipment and makes recommendations for repairs
  • Ensures all necessary materials, supplies, and equipment are available by maintaining an inventory of parts, materials, and supplies needed for day-to-day and emergency operations
  • Interprets performance data, evaluates testing performance data, and maintains all data and preventive maintenance schedules and records, tools, and parts inventory
  • Maintain safety policies and procedures. Lock Out/Tag Out, confined space work, and using proper safety equipment.
  • Uses all electrical and hand tools necessary to perform work.
  • Responds and assigns crews to all emergency situations, outages, and equipment failures as needed
  • All other duties as assigned
