About The Position

With guidance from and collaboration with the Children’s Media and Education manager, the Lifelong Learning Specialist will lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of youth educational programming at Twin Cities PBS. Working autonomously and with the Lifelong Learning team, this role will focus on expanding library-based and afterschool youth programming, enhancing curriculum development for TPT Learn Academies and Legacy programs, and fostering sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships within the Twin Cities education community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Library Science, or related field (Master’s preferred) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in leading and/or supporting educational programming and curriculum development
  • Strong familiarity with library systems and community-based organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead projects
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams, the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Able to multitask in a fast-paced, time sensitive production environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team members.
  • Commitment to advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) priorities within the organization.
  • Ability to travel to locations in the greater metro area on a frequent basis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead year-round “TPT Learn Academies” programming (50% of time)
  • Strategizes, plans and implements educational programming in afterschool spaces, with a primary focus on STEM learning.
  • Adapts existing instructional and learning resources, and creates new ones, in response to practitioner and students’ needs and strengths.
  • Develops and leads in-person and virtual professional development trainings and workshops for informal educators at participating partner organizations.
  • Leads implementation of STEM activities with children at participating partner organizations, and/or assists and supports trained educators in best practice-based activity implementation.
  • Researches, recruits and establishes relationships with partner organizations, with a goal or expanding and/or refining TPT’s network of youth partner organizations.
  • Acts as key contact for all TPT Learn Academy partner organizations, with a goal of sustaining and expanding the relationship.
  • Supports fundraising/development by providing mixed-method information about project efficacy for reports and new project ideation and proposals.
  • Lead “PBS in Your Library” programming (30% of time)
  • Expand summer programming, piloting year-round options for youth and adult learning in libraries
  • Act as key communicator to participating libraries with the goal of maintaining and growing relationships in the library community
  • Recruit, hire, and lead summer Go-Team, including staff events that support TPT’s mission around lifelong learning, particularly during summer months, including:
  • Travel to sites across the Twin Cities metro and occasionally greater Minnesota
  • Set-up and tear-down of tabling configurations and activities
  • Pack, refresh, and organize activities, noting where more or different materials are needed
  • Support purchasing, inventory and transport of educational materials
  • Implement activities and/or iterations on existing activities, based on community needs and strengths
  • Interact with children, parents, and caregivers
  • Answer and/or refer questions about TPT writ large
  • Act as a professional and positive TPT ambassador
  • Serve as a guide/companion for PBS costumed characters
  • Collaborate with TPT’s Director of Evaluation to assess and report on project efficacy
  • Develop standards-aligned curricular materials (15% of time)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in the education community to craft needs-based activities and resources for the TPT Learn Academies
  • Collaborate with internal producers and external subject matter experts to craft discussion guides and other resources for general audience Legacy-funded initiatives
  • Evaluate curricular quality and iterate/revise based on feedback
  • Assist on PBSLM uploads and relations
  • Other duties as assigned (5% of time)
  • Collaborate with TPT’s Director of Evaluation to assess and report on efficacy across all projects
  • Support administrative processes like purchasing materials and managing inventory, contract execution, credit cards, and reimbursements.
  • Assist the wider Lifelong Learning team in the various capacities needed for the success of department projects.
  • Provides occasional support to interdepartmental teams and resource management for education-focused projects.
  • Participate as an active member of the Lifelong Learning Team. Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.
