About The Position

With guidance from and collaboration with the Children’s Media and Education manager, the Lifelong Learning Specialist will implement in-person educational programming for Minnesota PBS. Working autonomously and with the Lifelong Learning team, this role will focus on staffing afterschool programming and community initiatives, and foster sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships within the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota. This is a temporary position intended to run through the end of the academic year (May 2027).

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in classroom or informal/afterschool learning spaces.
  • 2 years of experience in project management capacity.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams, the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong focus on audience and end user needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Able to multitask in a fast-paced, time sensitive production environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team members.
  • Commitment to advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) priorities within the organization.
  • Must have valid driver's license, have access to reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the Twin Cities metro. Additionally, must be able to successfully pass driver screening.
  • Occasional travel out of the state.

Responsibilities

  • Implements daily educational programming in afterschool partner sites, with a primary focus on STEM, literacy and SEL learning.
  • Employs standards-aligned PBS KIDS series in site visits by applying best practices for integrating media into learning environments.
  • Provides educators and leaders with professional development by modeling hands-on activities with youth at partner sites.
  • Adapts existing instructional and learning resources, in response to practitioner and student needs and strengths.
  • Assists Children’s Media and Education manager in in-person and virtual professional development trainings and workshops for formal and informal educators.
  • Collaborates with Children’s Media and Education manager to research, recruit and retain partner organizations, with a goal or expanding and/or refining Minnesota PBS’s network of youth partner organizations.
  • Acts as onsite contact for all Minnesota PBS Learn Academies partner organizations, with a goal of sustaining and expanding the relationship.
  • Coordinates with Twin Cities PBS’ Evaluation Director to assess project efficacy, and shares this information with the Lifelong Learning team for use for reports, new project ideation and grant proposals.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with AVID educators within Minneapolis Public Schools (for high school cohorts).
  • Coordinates closely with InspireMPS staff and teachers (for middle school cohorts).
  • Serves as a consistent point of contact for school and community partners.
  • Coordinates all station visits and classroom experiences.
  • Manages internal scheduling and logistics (e.g. room reservations, set-ups and tear-downs, employee participation, etc.).
  • Collaborates with staff to prepare educational activities and materials.
  • Supports facilitation of student experiences before, during, and after visits.
  • Participate as an active member of the Lifelong Learning team.
  • Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
