About The Position

The Lifeguard helps ensure safe pool and aquatics operations by maintaining an alert, focused, professional, and welcoming presence. The goal is to create a safe, incident-free swimming environment so customers can enjoy the pool and aquatic amenities. Pool hours vary across seven days a week and generally run from early morning to late evening.

The role includes greeting customers, supervising the pool and surrounding area, enforcing pool rules, monitoring and adjusting water quality, and maintaining detailed records. Lifeguards also close the pool and respond to hazards, organize logs for monthly submission, and perform cleaning and other pool-area tasks.

Requirements

• Active CPR, First Aid, and AED certification; NYC requires CPR certification annually.
• Ability to remain alert and focused while on shift.
• Thoroughness and attention to detail when taking pool readings and maintaining logs.
• Ability to enforce pool rules and policies.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
• A positive, outgoing, and professional manner when interacting with customers.

Nice To Haves

• Prior lifeguarding experience.
• Prior pool-cleaning experience, including vacuuming, backwashing, and scrubbing.
• Certification in technical pool management, maintenance, and servicing.
• Prior experience providing swim lessons.

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome customers using the pool and related amenities.
• Take water readings and adjust pool chemicals as needed.
• Supervise the pool and pool area throughout the shift.
• Enforce pool rules and policies, including addressing reckless behavior.
• Maintain detailed daily logs of water readings and bather counts.
• Close the pool and take remedial action when hazards arise.
• Organize logs for monthly submission.
• Maintain pool cleanliness, including brushing the water line, wiping railings, folding towels, and squeegeeing and mopping the pool deck.
• Communicate and report water-quality issues and other matters to the next person on shift.
