About The Position

The City and County of Denver Department of Parks and Recreation is hiring year-round lifeguards to work at select recreation centers and pools. Lifeguards help keep the community safe and active by supervising swimming areas, enforcing rules, responding to emergencies, serving pool visitors, maintaining pool spaces and equipment, teaching swimming lessons, and providing front-desk or other facility support as needed. Other related duties may be assigned. This is an on-call, part-time hourly position. Scheduling is flexible, though candidates are ideally available to work at least 12–15 hours per week, including weekends and/or weekday midday shifts. Depending on facility staffing needs, schedules may be routine or variable, and employees will work no more than 39 hours per week. Hiring is focused on year-round operations at select indoor pools, with priority consideration for applicants open to working at locations with the greatest hiring needs. New lifeguards are paid $19.29 per hour. On-call employees may enroll in the City's 457b retirement plan; the position is not eligible for other additional benefits. Applicants without a current lifeguard certification may take a free American Red Cross training and certification course provided by Denver Parks and Recreation, subject to successfully completing the required swimming pre-test. A qualifying lifeguard certification must be held within the first month of employment.
