About The Position

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) is looking for dedicated, vigilant, and responsible individuals to join our team as a seasonal Lifeguard at Little Buffalo State Park. The role includes monitoring the swimming area, responding to emergencies, and ensuring compliance with safety rules.

Requirements

  • All employees must obtain a valid Lifeguard Certification issued by the American Red Cross, YMCA, United States Lifesaving Association, or other authority recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health within 14 days of employment.
  • All employees must obtain valid certifications in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR within 14 days of employment.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Observe swimmers and maintain order in the pool area to reduce risks
  • Recognize distress, perform rescues, and provide first aid and CPR as needed
  • Explain and uphold park rules to support a safe experience for all visitors
  • Check safety gear, buoys, and swimming areas to ensure proper working condition
  • Prepare accurate written logs, forms, and incident reports promptly
  • Perform basic maintenance and custodial work to keep the pool and surrounding areas clean
