About The Position

The Lifeguard II position is a seasonal role within the Parks Department, reporting to the Aquatics Director. This role involves supervising swimming activities at the waterfront, ensuring adherence to policies, guidelines, and safety procedures. Key responsibilities include warning swimmers of improper activities, enforcing rules, administering first aid, and rescuing swimmers in distress. The Lifeguard II evaluates conditions for safety, initiates emergency action plans, inspects waterfront equipment and water, maintains equipment and first aid inventory, and ensures supplies are in good order. The role also requires filling out checklists and attending scheduled lifeguard training and meetings.

Requirements

  • Must be or willing to become CPR/ First Aid, Lifeguard certified, and maintain certification.
  • Must be attentive and able to give directions.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for lengthy periods of time and lift to 50lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Lifeguarding experience is preferred but not required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise swimming activities at the waterfront and ensure that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces waterfront rules and water safety policies.
  • Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning.
  • Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates the aquatics emergency action plan as required.
  • Inspects waterfront, jet ski launch, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
  • Maintains equipment and first aid inventory.
  • Ensures that first aid supplies are maintained, and that equipment is in good order and placed properly at the start of each shift.
  • Fill out required checklists.
  • Attends scheduled lifeguard training and meetings.
  • Other waterfront projects as assigned.
