About The Position

Lifeguard I supervises swimming activities at the waterfront, ensuring adherence to policies, guidelines, and safety procedures. This seasonal position in the Parks Department requires vigilance in enforcing rules, administering first aid, and responding to emergencies. The role involves inspecting the waterfront and equipment for safety, maintaining supplies, and completing required documentation. Attendance at training and meetings is also expected.

Requirements

  • Must be or willing to become CPR/ First Aid, Lifeguard certified, and maintain certification.
  • Must be attentive and able to give directions.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for lengthy periods of time and lift to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to swim 500 yards nonstop.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Lifeguarding experience is preferred but not required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise swimming activities at the waterfront and ensure that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces waterfront rules and water safety policies.
  • Administer first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning.
  • Evaluate conditions for safety and initiates the aquatics emergency action plan as required.
  • Inspect waterfront, jet ski launch, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
  • Maintain equipment and first aid inventory.
  • Ensure that first aid supplies are maintained, and that equipment is in good order and placed properly at the start of each shift.
  • Fill out required checklists.
  • Attend scheduled lifeguard training and meetings.
  • Other waterfront projects as assigned.
