About The Position

The City of Bozeman Swim Department is seeking confident, detail-oriented, quick-thinking, and team-oriented individuals for full-time and part-time Lifeguard & Swim Instructor III positions. These roles are crucial for ensuring patron safety at indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, providing aquatics program instruction, and assisting with facility maintenance. The position involves managing facilities in the absence of upper management and testing water chemicals to maintain balance. Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
At least one year of experience in lifeguarding or aquatics, including teaching aquatics programs lessons
Must possess and maintain Red Cross Lifeguarding with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification (expired certification acceptable at hire).
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within six months of employment in the position.
Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Nice To Haves

Possess a valid Driver’s License and must obtain a Montana Driver’s License within 60 days of employment.
Must successfully complete two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations including a swim-tread-swim sequence and a timed surface dive rescue event.
Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory responses to appropriate post conditional offer process.

Responsibilities

Performs life-saving and guarding duties, including assisting patrons in life-threatening situations.
Enforces pool rules and regulations for the efficient and safe operation of the aquatic facilities.
Provides active accident prevention and monitors patrons in the water.
Completes rescue accident and incident reports.
Provides aquatics programs instruction to patrons, including composing lesson plans and demonstrating proper techniques.
Ensures the safety of children and adults by watching for potential hazards and dangerous situations.
Teaches water safety and pool rules.
Serves as a Lead for assigned lifeguard staff, including training, assigning tasks, and providing guidance.
Assists in pool programming.
Performs maintenance, repair, and custodial services for pool, equipment, and facilities.
Documents and records activities.
Tests and monitors chemical balance in water and changes to water chemistry.
Provides customer service, including answering questions, referring customers, accepting payment, answering phones, and registering patrons for programs.
Assists in leading in-service trainings.
Maintains a clean and safe swimming facility, including cleaning locker rooms, lobby area, pool deck, and restrooms.
Ensures pool, equipment room, and pool deck are clear of potentially dangerous objects or situations.
Opens and closes facilities.
Completes locker rentals.
Organizes and maintains lost and found.
Performs cashier functions, including taking payments and reconciling funds.
Provides needed information and demonstrations to new employees.
Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
Performs other duties consistent with the role and function of this classification.
