About The Position

The Town of Canmore is seeking a part-time permanent Lifeguard/Swim Instructor who is passionate about aquatics and wants to make a positive impact in the community. This role offers an opportunity to develop leadership skills by ensuring guests have fun and safe experiences. The position involves lifeguarding during public swims, teaching aquatics programs, and performing daily pool tasks and maintenance. The role requires interaction with a large aquatics team, local community members, and international visitors.

Requirements

National Lifeguard Pool award and Intermediate First Aid & CPR "C" certification
Swim & Lifesaving Society Instructor certification
A positive attitude with the ability to anticipate needs
The ability to communicate effectively and positively with patrons, co-workers and supervisors

Nice To Haves

Fitness or other specialty certification, i.e. Kayak, Swim Coach, or Synchronized Swim Coach
Lifesaving First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor and Lifesaving Trainer certifications
Pool Operator Level I certification
Previous experience in Aquatics Industry

Responsibilities

Teach swim individually or in groups the basic stances, movements, techniques, rules, regulations and safety precautions in a sport
Demonstrate correct swim techniques, procedures, use of equipment and exercises to enhance participants' abilities
Assess participants' levels of ability and create appropriate lesson plans for student/ group
Ensure the safety of participants at all times by demonstrate and teach appropriate personal safety skills
Build confidence in participants and evaluate participant progress and assign grades where appropriate
Lifeguarding during busy public swims
Teaching aquatics programs
Performing daily pool tasks and maintenance
