About The Position

The Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation (VCBR) is a behavioral treatment center recognized for its excellence by securely housing and treating civilly committed sex offenders. Through timely, consistent, and fair and equitable program application, VCBR promotes self-recovery and self-determination of committed population. All contact between staff and residents is deemed therapeutic. This position will provide a range of psychoeducational, therapeutic, casework management services, and programming for residents in a therapeutic setting to enhance resident treatment and promote the residents’ pro-social behaviors. The selected candidate should have a working knowledge of the principles and techniques of counseling, education about psychological constructs and various intervention techniques; ability to evaluate and document treatment progress; exercise independent judgment in coordination and delivery of services and collaborate with the treatment team to develop individualized plans for residents; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and ability to provide case management and coordinate resources for residents.
  • Ability and skills in providing individual and group educational/supportive/insight/cognitive/behavioral counseling as well as family therapy.
  • Ability to, in conjunction with interdisciplinary teams, develop goals and implement treatment plans.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and techniques of counseling, education about psychological constructs, and various intervention techniques.
  • Ability to evaluate and document treatment progress.
  • Exercise independent judgment in coordination and delivery of services.
  • Collaborate with treatment team, conflict management, and mediation.
  • Demonstrated ability and skills in providing task orientation and facilitate psychoeducational groups.
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing (basic word processing and computer skills).
  • Ability to use good judgment.
  • Ability to interact with other professionals from various disciplines.
  • Ability to administer CPR and First Aid.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and overtime.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with sex offenders is preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in rehabilitative, counseling or casework management setting preferred.
  • Experience working with sex offenders is preferred.

Responsibilities
