About The Position

Prior Lake High School is seeking a Life Science Teacher for a 1.0 FTE position starting September 21, 2026. This role is part of the Prior Lake-Savage Education Association (PLSEA) collective bargaining agreement. Responsibilities

  • Planning and Preparation: Understands learning theory, subject matter, curriculum development, and student development to plan instruction. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of students' backgrounds, skills, special needs, talents, and interests to plan for student learning. Establishes goals that reflect high-level learning, adapts goals to individual student needs, and uses assessments to measure goal achievement. Utilizes available resources and knows how to access school and district resources. Uses instructional design elements to support goals and engage students. Understands and uses various instructional strategies to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and performance skills. Aligns student assessment with instructional goals, communicates assessment criteria, and uses assessments to plan for groups or individuals.
  • Classroom Environment: Creates a classroom environment that encourages positive social interactions. Creates a classroom conducive to learning, sets high expectations, makes learning relevant, and fosters student pride. Establishes routines and procedures and effectively utilizes classroom space. Establishes clear standards for student behavior and responds appropriately when expectations are not met.
  • Instruction: Uses effective communication techniques to foster active inquiry, high-level questioning, collaboration, and supportive interaction. Uses multiple teaching and learning strategies to engage students in active learning opportunities that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and performance capabilities. Monitors and adjusts strategies to provide timely, consistent, and high-quality feedback. Demonstrates responsiveness to students' interests and questions, and makes adjustments to instruction as needed. Uses educational technology to broaden student knowledge, deliver instruction at different levels and paces, and stimulate advanced learning.
  • Professional Responsibilities: Engages continuously in reflective practice of classroom instruction. Maintains accurate and complete records. Utilizes communication, technology, and other means to share student progress and engage families. Actively participates in district and school meetings, projects, and committees. Seeks professional growth through professional development, collaboration, and contribution to the teaching profession. Dresses and presents self professionally. Makes genuine efforts towards helping all students achieve success. Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee consistent with the collective bargaining agreement.
