About The Position

The Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) is a dynamic and innovative regulatory agency tasked with licensing and regulating the commercial Medical and Retail Marijuana industries in Colorado. First formed in 2010 as the Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division, the MED has developed a leading-edge approach to commercial marijuana regulation and is considered a global regulatory and industry leader. The Division implements legislation, develops regulations, conducts regulatory and criminal investigations, issues business licenses, engages in outreach and education initiatives, and enforces compliance mandates using a range of intervention strategies necessary to maintain a progressive and robust regulatory framework. The MED promotes transparency and innovation by utilizing a collaborative approach to engaging with stakeholders and by proactively and positively pursuing solutions to issues in a fast-paced professional environment. Requirements

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position OR A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to five (5) years.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application.
  • Must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations.
  • Must complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Process and issue statutorily mandated Marijuana Enforcement Division licenses.
  • Establish, process, image and maintain licensing files.
  • Provide a variety of services pertaining to the operation and administration of program areas and activities within the Division.
  • Perform initial application reviews.
  • Manage workload.
  • Answer licensee and other stakeholder questions related to licensing.
  • Process payments by completing data input and payment allocation.
  • Conduct background checks on applicants/licensees.
  • Interview and consult with applicants on problems that may prevent licensure in order to be in compliance with suitability requirements.
  • Follow up on occupational application deficiencies via written requests to applicants.
  • Provide final recommendations of suitability for occupational license applicants.
  • Refer applicants for additional investigation if necessary.
  • Provide training and guidance to new Division license staff in processing applications to comply with statute and accepted procedures.
  • Process requests to withdraw an application.
  • Disseminate information and respond to licensing inquiries and requests from the public, licensees, license applicants, Division staff, and others, through interpersonal contact, telephone contact, written correspondence that includes inquiry line and email.
  • Check voicemail of main line, return calls and/or refer complaints to the appropriate section(s) or Division Leadership.
  • Manage incoming mail.
  • Perform front counter function which includes, but is not limited to: checking in MED license applicants; receipting funds received for applications; answering a multi-line phone system; answering questions from the public, local authorities and other stakeholders; tracking and following up on all correspondence with licensees; responding to MED inquiries, and referring licensees and the public to the Division's website and advising where questions can be submitted.
  • Review fingerprint results for owner licensure.
  • Coordinate with Analysis and Resolution Team on licensing related matters.
  • Assist with addressing any backlog of licensing activities as assigned by the Appointing Authority.
  • Assist with the final licensing steps for approval of a Responsible Vendor.
  • Receive payment from applicants concerning applications.
  • Reconcile, check, credit cards and money order receipts from cash drawers with computerized cash processing system.
  • Prepare daily deposit of receipts in accordance with the Accounting and Financial Services (AFS) and the Division's policies, procedures and/or directives.
