About The Position

Panther Innovations (PI) at Georgia State University works to ensure that great ideas find their way out of the lab and into the hands of the people who need them. It plays a critical role in developing and protecting the intellectual property of the Georgia State research community. The office makes new discoveries available to business, industry and trade partners, driving economic growth and providing an opportunity for the public to benefit from research breakthroughs. The Licensing Associate is responsible for reviewing new invention disclosuers, managingrelationships with faculty, facilitating interactions with industry partners, and negotiating contracts relating to commercialization efforts. Panther Innovations is seeking (1) dedicated and experienced Licensing Associate

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Life Science or related field and one year of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge and understanding of US patent and contract law.
  • Experience working in a university administrative setting or business.
  • RTTP or CLP certification.

Responsibilities

  • Invention review - Review, research, and assess new discoveries and innovations for commercial value, patentability, marketability, and technical understanding.
  • Intellectual property protection - Assist Georgia State legal counsel in seeking patent protection for Georgia State inventions and managing patent prosecution activities.
  • Portfolio Management- manage portfolio on IP assets and corresponding relationships with faculty, provide feedback and guidance to faculty regarding inventions and discoveries, assist faculty in navigating the patent process, help faculty seek additional funding and resources to further development of Georgia State inventions and discoveries.
  • Business Development - Market innovations to potential industry partners and participate in other business development activities.
  • Contracts and agreements - Negotiate contracts related to commercialization (non-disclosure agreements, license agreements, etc.).
  • Community outreach - Assist OTTC and other research administration staff in raising local, regional, and national awareness of commercialization activities and research at Georgia State.
  • Professional Development - participate in professional development and training opportunities.
