Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Managed Care is hiring Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) to join our Psychiatric Services team at the Montford Unit in Lubbock, TX. As an LVN, you'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team providing compassionate, patient-centered care. This role offers the opportunity to develop specialized behavioral health skills while caring for patients with a wide range of psychiatric needs. About the Montford Unit The John Montford Unit is an accredited regional medical and mental health facility within the TTUHSC Managed Care system. The facility provides a comprehensive range of medical, psychiatric, and ancillary healthcare services to patients across the state. The Montford Psychiatric Unit is a 550-bed inpatient psychiatric facility dedicated to providing specialized mental healthcare for a diverse patient population. This unique setting provides nurses with the opportunity to gain experience caring for patients with complex behavioral health needs while working closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, mental health clinicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  • Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
  • New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications, perform assessments, and monitors patients’ health conditions to ensure adherence to care plans.
  • Identify and report changes in patient conditions, contributing to problem identification and the development of patient care goals.
  • Prepare and operate essential medical equipment for procedures, examinations, and treatments.
  • Accurately record patient assessments, interventions, and medication administration in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Work closely with healthcare providers and correctional staff to ensure coordinated care in a secure environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all healthcare policies, safety standards, and regulations, including proper medication storage and direct observation protocols.
  • Assist in medical emergencies, triaging patients, and provide immediate care when necessary.
