Licensed Veterinary Technician - Triage Specialist
About The Position
The Licensed Veterinary Technician serves as a Triage Specialist at a busy emergency and specialty veterinary practice in Syracuse, New York. This role is the first point of contact for pet owners seeking emergent care and is responsible for assessing and prioritizing cases so pets receive timely, appropriate care. The technician works closely with veterinarians and other medical staff, communicates compassionately with clients, and helps coordinate treatment according to urgency. The practice is a 24-hour Emergency, Specialty and Critical Care center with emergency clinicians and board-certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine, radiology, critical care, and oncology. It also has a physical rehabilitation suite and an attached reference laboratory. Incoming technicians receive a formal training and mentorship program. Responsibilities
- Conduct initial assessments of pets presenting with urgent or emergency needs and determine the level of care required.
- Work with veterinarians and other medical staff to prioritize treatments and coordinate care based on urgency.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners, explain treatment plans, and keep them informed about their pet’s condition.
