Requirements

  • Current Virginia Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license, or eligibility for Virginia licensure.
  • Strong technical and nursing skills with a desire to use them every day.
  • Confidence with anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, and hospitalized patient care is highly valued.
  • Excellent communication and client education skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound clinical judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled nursing care and perform technical duties within the scope of Virginia licensure.
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and medical procedures.
  • Induce and monitor anesthesia and provide comprehensive perioperative patient care.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory procedures, diagnostic imaging, and prescribed treatments.
  • Take an active role in dentistry, including dental radiographs and appropriate technician-level procedures.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in patient status to the medical team.
  • Educate clients regarding medications, preventive care, treatment plans, and at-home care.
  • Maintain complete and accurate medical records.
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians, fellow LVTs, assistants, and client service team members.
  • Advocate for excellent patient care while helping maintain efficient hospital flow.
