About The Position

Lakewood Animal Hospital is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our small animal practice in Locust Grove, Virginia. This position offers the opportunity to use your technical skills across outpatient care, diagnostics, dentistry, surgery, anesthesia, and hospitalized patient care while working closely with our veterinarians and support team. We are looking for an LVT who is confident in their technical abilities, communicates well, and values high-quality medicine and efficient, collaborative patient care. Experienced technicians and recent graduates are both encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Hold a current Virginia Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license or be eligible for licensure in Virginia
  • Demonstrate safe and appropriate handling of dogs and cats
  • Have a working knowledge of common disease processes and patient monitoring
  • Be able to recognize changes in patient status and communicate concerns appropriately to the veterinarian
  • Have strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a clinical setting
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and coworkers

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with anesthesia, dentistry, radiology, laboratory procedures, venipuncture, and IV catheter placement is preferred.
  • Recent LVT graduates who are looking to continue developing these skills are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting veterinarians with appointments, treatments, dentistry, surgery, anesthesia, recovery, and hospitalized patient care
  • Performing technical procedures including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory testing, diagnostic radiographs, medication administration, and patient monitoring
  • Recognizing changes in patient condition and communicating findings promptly to the veterinarian
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and communicating professionally with clients regarding patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up
  • Maintaining organized, clean, and properly stocked treatment, surgical, dental, and examination areas while following hospital and regulatory standards
  • Following hospital protocols and applicable safety and regulatory requirements
