About The Position

This position is for a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT II) in a state-of-the-art small animal intensive care unit at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals. The role involves providing excellent patient care using current technology, with opportunities for mentorship, continuing education, and collaboration with passionate peers. Responsibilities include managing a mix of primary and specialty cases, from routine to critical trauma patients, and utilizing and developing technical skills such as venipuncture and central line catheter placement. The LVT will also teach and guide DVM students and house officers, and collaborate with multiple specialty services, with potential for cross-training.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, inter-professional care team.
  • Critical thinking and observation skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail when calculating and administering medications.
  • Ability to successfully provide critical patient skills, such as placement and maintenance of central line catheters, using various oxygen therapies (High Flow and nasal cannulae), venipuncture and arterial blood sampling, chest tube management, assisting with management of mechanical ventilation patients, and medical calculations including constant rate infusions.
  • Associate degrees from an AVMA accredited institution plus NYS licensure.
  • 1-3 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Interest in on-going career growth and advanced skill development.
