This position provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises the day-to-day nursing activities performed by licensed practical/vocational nurses and certified nursing assistants. The role operates in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, as well as established facility policies and procedures. The Licensed Practical Nurse follows a nursing model to promote holistic care for residents, ensures compliance with policies and procedures, and participates in resident admissions, discharges, and transfers. Key responsibilities include assessing changes in resident status, notifying physicians and families, transcribing and administering physician orders, preparing and administering medications, performing wound treatments, and scheduling follow-up appointments and transportation. The role also involves providing direct care skills such as colostomy changes, tube feedings, wound care, suctioning, and IV administration. The Licensed Practical Nurse performs rounds to ensure resident needs are met and personnel are performing duties, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, and participates in management team meetings. They may also assist in evaluating work performance, implementing discipline, and reporting concerns or complaints. The position requires reporting incidents, participating in end-of-life care, ensuring adequate stock of supplies, and initiating/updating care plans. Promoting teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communication is essential, as is participation in survey processes and QAPI activities. Ensuring infection control principles are followed and correcting deficiencies are also key duties. Additional tasks include treating residents with dignity and respect, promoting residents' rights, establishing a culture of compliance, adhering to safety and hygiene measures, maintaining confidentiality of protected health information, and reporting noncompliance or retaliation. The role also involves reporting occupational exposures, participating in emergency drills, reporting work-related injuries, and completing all assigned training and skills competency as a condition of employment.
