The Registered Nurse (RN) position in Nursing Services may provide direct nursing care to residents and supervises the day-to-day nursing activities performed by licensed practical/vocational nurses and certified nursing assistants. This role operates in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, as well as established facility policies and procedures. The RN promotes holistic care for residents, ensures compliance with policies, and participates in resident admissions, discharges, and transfers. Key responsibilities include assessing resident status changes, transcribing and administering physician orders, performing wound treatments, scheduling appointments, and providing direct care skills such as colostomy changes, tube feedings, and IV administration. The RN also performs rounds, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, participates in management meetings, and may assist in evaluating staff performance. They are responsible for reporting incidents, participating in investigations, providing end-of-life care, ensuring adequate supplies, and updating care plans. The role emphasizes teamwork, respect, effective communication, and participation in survey processes and QAPI activities. Ensuring infection control principles are followed is also a critical aspect of this position. Additional tasks include treating residents with dignity, promoting resident rights, maintaining a culture of compliance, adhering to safety and hygiene measures, and protecting resident confidentiality. The RN must report noncompliance, retaliation, discrimination, and any allegations of abuse, neglect, or mistreatment. They are also responsible for reporting occupational exposures and participating in emergency drills and life safety training. Reporting work-related injuries and illnesses immediately is required, along with completing all assigned training and skills competency as a condition of employment.
