About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse performs selected nursing acts in the care of the ill, injured, or infirm patient under the direction of a registered nurse. Under the direction of the registered nurse, provides nursing care in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This LPN functions as unit coordinator for the department unit. This posting is intended to build a candidate pipeline for current and future Emergency Department Nurse opportunities. Requirements

  • Technical Diploma/Certificate Practical Nursing Required
  • Certificate of Completion IV Therapy Certification Required
  • Licensed Practical Nurse State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) within 90 Days Required
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association within 1 Year Required
  • CPI within 90 Days Required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
  • Must have superior multi-tasking and prioritizing skills, as well as organizational skills.
  • IV therapy certification skill complete.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), assesses and identifies patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement the medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures appropriate to patient needs.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and current documentation of nursing care to support communication and continuity of care among the healthcare team.
  • Operates the order communication system and enters orders into the computer accurately.
  • Transcribes physician orders in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Follows established processes for patient transfers and discharges.
  • Ensures required supplies and services are ordered and available to support unit operations.
  • Maintains current licensure, certifications, and required competencies.
  • Holds IV therapy certification and, under the direct supervision of an RN or physician, may mix and hang primary and secondary IV solutions, administer IV push medications, including narcotics, and perform heparin and saline flushes without direct RN supervision, as permitted.
  • In the Emergency Department, does not administer antiarrhythmic medications or medications associated with conscious sedation procedures.
  • Evaluates patient care, reassesses patient responses, and modifies interventions as needed to meet patient and family needs and ensure quality outcomes.
  • Supports departmental and organizational operations by performing additional duties as assigned.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather events and/or disasters.
