Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN or LVN)
About The Position
NaphCare is hiring Full-Time Night Shift Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join our healthcare team at the Washoe County Jail in Reno, Nevada. This role is ideal for a night-shift nurse seeking competitive pay, a consistent full-time schedule, and an opportunity to utilize clinical skills outside of a traditional bedside setting. As a Correctional Nurse, you will work with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide hands-on care to a diverse patient population with complex medical needs. You will employ a wide range of nursing skills, including physical assessments, medication administration, chronic disease management, and emergency response within a secure and fast-paced clinical environment. Correctional nursing offers a variety of practice, valuable clinical experience, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on an underserved population.
Requirements
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Actively state-certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
Responsibilities
- Performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history
- Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight
- Providing wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas
- Administering medication, including injections of medications and monitoring reaction to meds
- Maintaining medical records, including entering information into our electronic health record, TechCare
- Observing patient health and mental health status
- Providing emergency first aid
- Providing patient education and discharge/release planning
